GAS SAMPLING BULB

Description

The stainless steel gas sampling bulb is engineered to determine the concentration of water vapour and other gases (like sulphur components) in natural gas using Uniphos detector tubes. The sampling bulb is attached to a bleeder valve on a natural gas line using a ¼ inch NPT. The holes in the sampling bulb keep the internal pressure at ambient while allowing the excess gas to vent to the atmosphere.

Operation

Attach the gas sampling bulb to the bleeder by hand tightening until snug. Open the valve one quarter turn or until the flow through the holes in the bulb can be felt lightly against the hand. Allow the gas to flow for 30 seconds before taking a sample, to condition the sampling bulb to the natural gas and purge any ambient air. Keep the valve open throughout the sampling process.

Taking the Measurement

Prior to taking the measurement, review the detector tube instruction for use to familiarize yourself with the operation of the tube. The instructions will specify the number of pump strokes and the color change. The arrow on the tube indicates the direction of flow. Prepare a Uniphos water vapor tube by breaking the tips of the tube and inserting the tube into the pump with the arrow on the tube pointing toward the pump inlet. Insert the tube into the hole on the side of the sampling bulb to approximately 1.5 to 2 inches (4 to 5 cm). Align the red dots on the barrel of the pump and the piston handle and pull the handle all the way back. The handle will engage and the pump cycle will begin to pull 100 ml through the tube with each pump stroke. Upon completion of the required number of strokes, remove the tube from the sampling bulb and read the stain on the tube.

NOTE

There are low and high range Uniphos water vapor tubes calibrated in MG/L for determining the water vapour content in natural gas.
